Pyometra can also occur after the menopause in patients with a endometritis, in the absence of malignant disease.

The organisms responsible for a pyometra may be co1iforms, cocci or staphylococci, but not infrequently no organisms are gr culture. A tuberculous pyometra is now very rare.

The patient may complain of an intermittent blood-stained p discharge. Abdominal pain and fever are seldom present. The body uterus m~y be enlarged to a diameter of about 10 cm, and may feel It may be tender.

The diagnosis is made by dilatation of the cervix, when pus esc is not sufficient merely to diagnose a pyometra; in every case a mo fu1 examination must be made to exclude a carcinoma. Much care

Treatment

In the absence of any evidence of carcinoma the pyometra is dr . dilatation of the cervix and stitching a drainage tube into the ute few days.
